B.Sc. in Forestry is a 4 years full time undergraduate course divided into 8 semesters. The primary aim of the program is to train students in Forestry. Forest science is the scientific study of forest planning and management, animal and plant life, ecology and conservation. Students in a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Forest Science program may study silviculture, agriculture, wildlife, botany, wood science and more.
They gain hands-on experience through field trips, internships (required for graduation) and lab work. Ample job opportunities are available for B.Sc. Forestry graduates in the Forest Department of Indian Government. One may land the job of a forester or forest department officer in State Government's Forest Department. For this, one has to go through the selection process and examination though. In case of private sector jobs, some job posts available are- plantation and resort manager, forest product marketing, forest products purchasing manager, Research and Development sector etc.
Around 95% of forest area is Government owned and therefore the overall management & utilisation of forest resources is in hands of Forest Department exclusively. The role of private sector in Forestry is very limited due their access to privately owned plantations only.
