Diploma in Automobile Engineering is a 3 years (6 Semester) long program. Automobile Engineering course trains students in areas such as- automobile design, vehicle engineering, electrical and electronic systems used in vehicles, braking, material science, engines, fuels and lubricants etc.
An automobile engineer is a person who has been trained to take on various jobs in automobile industry, such as- designing, developing, inspecting, manufacturing and testing motor vehicles and their parts. They are also capable of carrying out diagnostic work (problem finding) and carrying out repair works if necessary!

Now, with so many foreign automobile companies like Volkswagen, Audi, Renault etc targeting India as a base for manufacturing cars, the scope for a career in automobile industry is rising rapidly.
After completing Diploma Automobile program, one may go for Bachelor’s Degree (B.E./B.Tech.) in Automobile Engineering! In most Degree Engineering colleges, certain amount of seats are reserved for Diploma certificate holders. This entry is known as the lateral entry. Diploma holders with good grade may make use of lateral entry and join B.E./B.Tech. Automobile Engineering program’s 2nd academic year (directly). This way, Diploma holders may make the ‘D2D’ switch and earn a Bachelor of Engineering/Technology Degree!
